GDP measures the production of goods and services, but not ideas. It is a paradox, as the economy goes into crisis when the ability of entrepreneurs to imagine and create narrows or even ends, not because physical production has been restricted, as economists claim.
The old economy has come to an end, as have repetition and imitation. There is no more space for similar products and services. Not even for similar companies. Even less for equal approaches and ways of selling. When what prevails is regularity and stability, there is no creative genius that can be expressed.
True wealth derives from the ideas that will produce the future, not from the sum of what was accomplished in the past. Objects are ideas. Services are ideas. Works of art are ideas. Texts are ideas. Ideas have been the only sources of wealth throughout human history.
We live in a prodigal time for generating wealth. Never before have we had so much information available. The internet has facilitated collective creation, by allowing the sharing of a huge range of knowledge. In this broad, even unlimited space, everyone can research and learn freely, in addition to exercising their entrepreneurial talents.
People and companies have never been so equipped in their decision-making processes nor have they experienced conditions so favorable to innovation, designed and worked on together. And in a very accessible way.
It's time for the New Economy!
